White rain

It rained all day in San Diego last Saturday, which usually translates to snow out in the mountains. We packed Arianna and some necessary gear into the car early Sunday morning and drove up to Mt. Laguna to check things out.

It was cold and gloomy when we got there. My trusty shovel measured somewhere between 4" to 5" of snow on the ground.

We ditched our car at Penny Pines. The Big Laguna Trail was easily accessible from this point without having to drive through unplowed dirt roads.

As soon as we got baby bundled up and comfortable in the backpack, we set off to make fresh footprints in the snow. Arianna was looking around, pointing to stuff and making noises.

Jo took over carrying Arianna about halfway into the hike. We didn't see anyone else the whole time we were out there. No footprints in the snow either as we got further along the trail.

Although Jo and I have hiked/biked this trail several times, the layer of snow on the vegetation and ground made it feel like we were somewhere else.

After about 40 minutes, we decided to head back to the car and give Arianna her milk. But not before making a snowman...

My snowman looked rather pathetic, to say the least. Next time, I will remember to google "snowman building techniques" before I head to the snow zone.

The trek back to the car was uneventful. Real pros would have just brought the gear to prepare baby's milk trailside and gone further. We'll learn...

Once Arianna was done eating, we hopped into our car and left the dark clouds behind...

...and headed north to sunny Julian...

..for some apple pie!

And then back home to sunny San Diego.. and work the next day. *Sigh...
